The words on your screens, defined in the sense the app uses them, in alphabetical order. No jargon is used in a definition without its own entry.

A to E

After hours. The trading session after the regular close, until 8 in the evening Eastern. Prices from it carry the AH badge.

AI Wins. The feed on the overview screen of recent winning trades closed by the FundSpec AI models, whose full record is published on fundspec.ai.

Alert. A price alert: a request to be notified when a stock trades at or above or at or below a price, or moves a chosen percent in a day.

Analyst. A researcher at a brokerage or bank who publishes a rating and a price target on a stock.

Beta. How much a stock tends to move compared with the market. One means as much as the S&P 500; two means twice as much.

Change. The difference between the current price and the previous close, in dollars and in percent.

Close. The last price of the regular session. The previous close is the anchor for today's change.

Dow Jones Industrial Average. An index of thirty large US companies, weighted by share price.

Earnings per share, EPS. A company's profit divided by its number of shares, over the trailing twelve months.

Enterprise value, EV. Market value plus debt minus cash: the cost of buying the whole company and settling its borrowings.

EV to EBITDA. Enterprise value divided by earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation; a valuation ratio that accounts for debt.

ETF. An exchange traded fund: a basket of investments that trades as a single share, like SPY for the S&P 500.

Extended hours. Pre market and after hours together.

Flavour. One of the app's six colour themes: Tangerine, Lagoon, Sunburst, Bubblegum, Meadow and Grape Soda.

Forward P/E. Price divided by analysts' estimate of the next twelve months' earnings per share.

FundSpec AI. The chat tab that answers plain English questions about your stocks from the same data the app shows.

Gap. A jump between one session's close and the next open, caused by news that arrived while the market was shut.

Index. A basket of stocks combined into one number by a rule, used to represent a market or a sector.

Laggard. The stock on your watchlist with the worst percent change today, named on the pulse line.

Market value, market cap. Share price multiplied by the number of shares: what the whole company is worth at today's price.

Moving average. The average closing price over the last 50 or 200 trading days, used to describe the trend.

Nasdaq Composite. An index of every stock listed on the Nasdaq exchange, weighted by market value.

PEG. Price to earnings divided by the expected earnings growth rate.

Percent move. A price alert that fires when a stock moves a chosen percent in a day, up or down.

Pre market. The trading session before the regular open, from as early as 4 in the morning Eastern. Prices from it carry the PM badge.

Previous close. The last price of the previous regular session.

Price target. An analyst's estimate of a stock's price about a year ahead; the app shows the average.

Price to book. Market value divided by the company's net assets on its balance sheet.

Price to earnings, P/E. Price divided by earnings per share; trailing uses the last twelve months, forward the next.

Price to sales. Market value divided by annual revenue.

Profit margin. Profit as a percentage of revenue, over the trailing twelve months.

Pulse. The line above your watchlist counting stocks up and down and naming the top mover and the laggard.

Q to Z

Quote. The current price of a stock with its change from the previous close.

Rating. An analyst's opinion on a stock: strong buy, buy, hold, sell or strong sell.

Regular session. 9:30 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon Eastern on trading days, when the official open and close are set.

S&P 500. An index of five hundred of the largest US companies, weighted by market value; SPY tracks it.

Ticker. The short code for a stock, like AAPL, or for an ETF, like QQQ.

Top mover. The stock on your watchlist with the best percent change today.

Trailing twelve months, TTM. The last four reported quarters added together.

Volume. The number of shares traded so far today.

Watchlist. Your list of stocks and ETFs, with live prices, the home screen of the app and of the widget.

Widget. The JSQ Watchlist home screen widget, showing your list with live prices in your flavour.

52 week high and low. The highest and lowest prices of the last year.
